Kapa Haka festival!

Turanganui Kapa Haka Festival.

I Shivered nervously, as I followed my line onstage. It was the Turanganui Kapa Haka festival and Wainui beach school was about to perform. We were all dressed up with mokus, black lipstick, and our dresses. The front row had piupius and feathers, but Matitia (The kaea) had a patterned cloak draped over her. Once we were all on stage the audience broke into a loud applause. When it had died down Hunter began to sing our school waita. As he sang we began to form a triangle, then we all joined in. We sounded great as our voices echoed around the stage. Everyone broke into another loud applause once we had finished.

A few songs later, it was time for the poi. "Pureanui toru wha!" As we sang, we went down onto our knees swinging the poi. Halfway though the song we came back up, continuing with our poi actions. The next song was Utaina. After we sang the first part it was time for the boys to come through with their Haka. It sounded beautiful as the girls voices came though the haka. Once the song ended it was time for the big Haka. The sound of cheering filled the room as they ended the haka. Finally it was time for Wainui e and He Honore. It was the last lines of He Honore when my row walked of stage proudly.

I found Steph and my mum after the performance and they took many photos. They were so proud of us. After saying goodbye we got into our class lines, and prepared to get onto the bus . I felt so relieved it was all over. I can't wait to come and Watch it next year! My highlight was probably the poi or Ka Pioioi because I smiled the most in them.

Marae Trip!

Marae Trip
Kapa Haka
Last week our school went to Te Poho o Rawiri for our stay at the marae. I came late because I had just came back from my holiday so I wasn't there for the activities on Thursday. When I arrived my friends ran up to me and showed me where to put my bags. Soon after we went down to the courts to play handball. After a couple of games of handball the bell rang for dinner. I sat down at a table with my friends and we ate nachos for dinner.

Ukulele
After we had ate we set up our beds and then we performed our Kapa haka for the adults that had come to watch. We then got ready for bed. Sophie and I hopped into bed and talked for so long. We finally tried to get some sleep but somebody was snoring like CRAZY so we didn't have the best sleep.

Inside of the Marae
The next morning we got up, packed up, and changed into our clothes. The teachers made us run for a bit, but luckily they let us play games afterwards. We had breakfast then welcomed the Wai in with a powhiri. Overall I enjoyed the Marae trip because It was a fun two days for everyone.

Learning new sentences!

For the past two weeks in my level three writing group we have been learning to write new types of sentences. They include a main clause, a dependent clause and a subordinate clause. In one workshop we wrote five sentences including those things. We wrote them about our characters from Escape from Kraznir. This week we had three options to choose from. All of the options were creatures also from Escape from Kraznir. On this blog post I am going to be sharing my sentences about the creature I chose.

Auckland Islands!

In my EL4 math group we have been doing an activity about the Auckland islands. If you don't know where that is, the Auckland Islands are 290 miles of the South island of New Zealand. There were 10 activities we had to complete. Some were hard and some were easy. (Most of them were hard). The task was for year 8s, year 9s, year 10s and year 11s. I did this task with my friend Sophie who is also in my maths group. Together we completed it and got the questions right.

On each task, there was also a Challenge. Some tasks/challenges involved drawing, creating, reading, researching, writing and much more. Luckily on every slide there was a clue. One clue was a math clue and the other clue was a road clue. The maths clues had an equation but the road clue had some research. On most of the tasks we used math clues. I learnt lot's about the Auckland island and its animals. I also learnt that exponents are the small number that goes above the big number. Overall I really enjoyed this task and I would recommend it for you if you wanted a challenge.
If you would like to have a look at my project have a look at the slides below

Cross Country!

Today on the 20th of August Our whole school participated in the actual Cross country. I'm a year six, so that meant I had to do two big laps of the course. It was very tiring but i'm glad that I did it. We ran on the sand dunes so there was lots of hills. The year six girls went first. I'm glad we went first because it was a good temperature, but towards the end of all the races it started to get chilly and windy.

The top six people in each year group go to interschools. I came 8th so that means I was two places away from going to interschools. I'm really proud of myself for placing in the top ten. We also had to wear our house colours. I'm in red house so I wore a bright orange t-shirt because I couldn't find a red one. This was also my last Cross country at Wainui Beach School.
Here is a photo of me running

Escape from Kraznir!

Escape from Kraznir

For the past few weeks, my level 3 writing group has been doing an adventure based piece of writing. It is called Escape From Kraznir. Someone called Miss Ransom created a slide presentation all about the obstacles our characters would run into. The slides have options that we can choose to write our chapter about. So far I am up to writing chapter four.

This writing has been very interesting and fun because I've learnt lots of different ways to construct  sentences. The sentences that I learnt were made up of a main clause, a subordinate clause and a dependent clause. I also enjoyed this because it's fun to share my writing with people.

Here is my first paragraph of Chapter one

Science Fair!

This term we have Science fair. If you don't know what that is it is a project that you can do by yourself or with a buddy. You have to find a project then complete it by using the scientific method. I did mine with a buddy (Sophie). We used the scientific method and finished ours in time for this term. Hopefully we make regionals.  If you would like to find out more you can have a look at the slides below.

Spectacular Snowmanotron!

This term my writing group has been looking at the snowmanotron. The snowmanotron is a contraption that can create snowmen.  We watched a video about it and then we drew a diagram of the snowmanotron. After we drew it we labeled all the parts and then planned all the steps it does to make a snowman.

We are writing an explanation of how it works, so far we have wrote an introduction each. I hope you enjoy it and comment your feedback on how I can improve on it.

Refugee!

Huia reading: Refugee

In my reading group (early level 4) our activity is to read a book and answer some questions. The book is called Refugee. Each week our teacher (Koka Ngaire) lets us read another part of the story. So far it has been very interesting. I hope you enjoy seeing what i've done so far. I'll make sure that I post updates.

It's about three different characters, Joseph, Mahmoud and Isabel. Mahmoud is a boy who lives in Syria. His home used to be safe but now, nowhere is safe with all the war going on. Joseph is a Jewish boy. The Nazi's do not treat Jewish well, so Joseph and his family have been forced to flee Germany. Isabel lives in Cuba. Isabel and her family are escaping the country and planning to head for America. Her family must escape before the soldiers arrest her dad. They are all different but there's one thing they have in common... They are Refugees.
These are the questions we have to answer
This is what I've written down as the answers

Terrific Term 2!

This Term has been an amazing experience. We did so many fun and exciting things. Firstly we had the gym festival. Our school (Wainui) did very well. I was in the rhythmical team, we did a great job and our team placed seconded overall. We've also been doing a activity called discovery every Friday. Discovery is filled with many different things to do. I enjoy it lot's cause you can explore many different things. This Friday we are not doing discovery because we had the Term 2 assembly.

Our term inquiry topic is Retro tech. Retro tech is all about how things worked when they first came out and how much they have evolved. We went on a trip to the Tawhiti museum and learnt many new things. Two or three students from each class got a certificate. The jump jam team also came up and performed a routine for us.

In this term mostly every 2 weeks on Friday we go down to the Hamanutua stream to weed and mulch it. When we go down there, we moved discovery down to the second block so we didn't have to miss out. Overall we fitted in many activities and had a terrific Term 2!

Walt Disney!

In our class book (Fish in a Tree) Mr Daniels mentions a list of famous people that were told they were dumb or had dyslexia. We had to pick someone from the list to write about. There was lots of people to choose from, Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso, Henry Winkler, Walt Disney, John Lennon, ect. I chose Walt Disney. We then printed them out and hung them up in our classroom. I hope you enjoy mine.

Super six sentence story!

Six Sentence Story
Hi, In my L3 writing group with Koka Terri we have been learning about six sentence stories. We had a choice of making one with character chooser or you could make up your own Character. I chose to make up my own character. After you had made up a few you would choose the best one. This story is about a talented young girl who is a singer

Probability of odd socks and even socks

In moana learning hub on Tuesdays and Thursdays we have strand maths. We have been learning about statistics and probability. This week and last week we were testing the probability of getting odd or even socks. We tested this by reaching into a bag and seeing if we pulled out a pair of socks or odd socks. On the first test there was 2 blue socks and 2 purple socks on. The results for that were 50% each. On the the next test there were 3 blue socks and 2 purple socks. The results on that test were 50% for a pair and 50% for an odd!

I found out that there were 12/25 chances and that there was six pairs and six odds
This is a video of me explaining the probability of odd socks or a pair of sock

Brilliant Blogging

How to make a quality blog post!
Hi, i'm going to tell you about how to make quality blog post. Above this writing there is a rubric telling you what the quality of your blog is. Once you've read the rubric you circle what number you think your blogpost is.

For example on punctuation. Number 1 says I have checked  my blog for punctuation, spelling and typos and don't have many errors. Number 2 says I have checked  my blog for punctuation, spelling and typos thoroughly, and have no errors. Number 3 says I have checked  my blog for punctuation, spelling and typos and had a buddy check it as well. I am sure that I have no errors in my work!

Guess the animal!

Guess the animal!
Hi, this is a blog post about one of my quickwrites. We had an option of 3 animals. Once we had choose an animal we had to write about. Then we had to describe it in sentences. I found this learning fun because it wasn't that easy but it wasn't that hard. Try and guess what animal i've chosen!
