Kapa Haka festival!

Turanganui Kapa Haka Festival.

I Shivered nervously, as I followed my line onstage. It was the Turanganui Kapa Haka festival and Wainui beach school was about to perform. We were all dressed up with mokus, black lipstick, and our dresses. The front row had piupius and feathers, but Matitia (The kaea) had a patterned cloak draped over her. Once we were all on stage the audience broke into a loud applause. When it had died down Hunter began to sing our school waita. As he sang we began to form a triangle, then we all joined in. We sounded great as our voices echoed around the stage. Everyone broke into another loud applause once we had finished.

A few songs later, it was time for the poi. "Pureanui toru wha!" As we sang, we went down onto our knees swinging the poi. Halfway though the song we came back up, continuing with our poi actions. The next song was Utaina. After we sang the first part it was time for the boys to come through with their Haka. It sounded beautiful as the girls voices came though the haka. Once the song ended it was time for the big Haka. The sound of cheering filled the room as they ended the haka. Finally it was time for Wainui e and He Honore. It was the last lines of He Honore when my row walked of stage proudly.

I found Steph and my mum after the performance and they took many photos. They were so proud of us. After saying goodbye we got into our class lines, and prepared to get onto the bus . I felt so relieved it was all over. I can't wait to come and Watch it next year! My highlight was probably the poi or Ka Pioioi because I smiled the most in them.
